Westerville Mixed Use Retail and Residential Development at Central College and Sunbury Roads
Columbus commercial real estate developer Casto and Columbus residential developer M & I Homes have teamed up to build a mix use development in one of Westerville’s most historic areas at the southeast corner of Central College and Sunbury Roads.
Planned are 20,000 square feet of Westerville triple net leased retail, 244 multifamily apartments and 71 single family residential units.
The proposal, dubbed the Village at Central College, preliminary plans plus a rezoning request went before the Westerville planning commission on December 18, 2013, not for a vote at this time, but for feedback regarding the proposal.
The Westerville retail and residential mixed used development would feature architecture that blends well with the early 1800 structures on the west side of Sunbury Road.
The planning commission staff would like to see a village green concept with a traditional village layout complete with large green space, streets and alleys.
Westerville senior planner, Bassem Bitar, said.
“The issue is getting the details right, and I think everyone is working toward that goal,” he said. “We think that the mix of uses is an appropriate use, we think it fits with the original plans for the development. We would like to work to see if we can make it more of a traditional type of development.”
There are no details yet on the configuration of the Westerville commercial property for lease. It will probably be a ground lease so I doubt that there will be any Westerville commercial real estate for sale in the development
