I had no idea that according to USA Today, Columbus Ohio comes in second in the number of playgrounds in a city. The number almost equals the number of golf courses around here. Added in the last year are the downtown Columbus Commons and Scioto Mile as huge new playgrounds for all ages.

Why it made the list: Public-Private Partnership Task Force. In the past 10 years, more than $2 million in grants, capital investments, sponsorships and private donations have come in through the city’s Safe Playgrounds Initiative.
